In
this one-day workshop,
participants learn the techniques of toning photos
to achieve the desired effects through subtle
& not-so-subtle changes of color in their
prints. Generally reserved for B&W prints,
toning is also effective on some color prints.
Participants will also learn the technique of
toning for archival permanence of photographs.
We
will explore Sepia (odorless), Selenium, and at
least one color toner, as well as alternatives
to adding color to a print through dyes. Participants
are shown the techniques of masking areas of the
photograph to to create contrasting areas in the
print. The prints receive an archival final wash
cycle and discussion will follow.
Handouts
& demonstrations highlight this class and
enhance the on-hands activities. Participants
must bring 2-3 copies of each photo they
wish to tone, or 2-3 prints for any particular
toner used. This provides a "practice print"
for each part of the session. Prints should be
no lager than 8x10.
