| This
class is designed to introduce participants to
the art of black & white photographic films.
We begin with a Friday night
orientation and discussion about a variety
of B&W films. The discussion includes fact
sheets, handouts & info about film speeds,
film characteristics, & lighting conditions.
Approximate length
of session: 2-3 hours,
suggested time: 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
On
Saturday morning,
we help the group expose their film in different
lighting conditions with a variety of subject
matter, inside & outside. After lunch, it
is on to the darkroom to learn how to develop
the film. The basics of film development are covered
in a demonstration & practice session.
Then,
each participant develops his/her two rolls of
film with the guidance of the instructor(s). Later,
after the film dries, the participant makes contact
sheets of the negatives to take home with the
negatives. Morning session:
9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Afternoon
session: 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. (Approximate
times given; length depends upon class size &
interests.)
There
are discussion periods sprinkled throughout the
workshop schedule where participants get individual
guidance & group input. All
materials are included in the cost of the
workshop, and two rolls of film are provided to
each person. Handouts and teaching materials highlight
the demonstrations and hands-on approach.
Participants must have a 35mm camera with manual
controls or setting. NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
NEEDED. Class is limited to 8 participants.

A darkroom/lab with a totally light-tight film
changing room is needed, and 2-3 enlarger stations
are needed to make contact sheets for this class.
Running water that can be temperature controlled
is recommended.

Fee: $150 per person at the Hattiesburg, MS location,
Deposit: $35.
Workshop
fee on location: $175 per person, Deposit: $60
(includes non-refundable registration fee), plus
travel expenses for the instructor(s).
All
fees must be paid in full at least two weeks in
