your B&W printmaking to the next level!
Participants learn how to use fiber-based enlarging
papers & archival processing for creating
photographs that last for generations. The
techniques for enhancing print quality through
contrast, tone, and paper choice are explained
through discussion sessions and hands-on practice
with the instructor & assistant.
Friday
evening session begins
the orientation to papers, how to choose enlarging
papers to fit the mood of the image & the
darkroom/archival procedures and processes. Approximate
length: 2-3 hours,
Suggested time: 6:00-9:00 p.m.
The
Saturday session
is filled with hands-on practice with individual
help, individual and group discussions, handouts,
data sheets, and a lunch break. Session usually
starts about 9:00 a.m.,
and ends up about 4:00-4:30
p.m.
This
is not a beginner's class or workshop.
Participants must bring their own B&W negatives
to make enlarged prints, and have had previous
class or experience with darkroom printing. All
other materials are furnished, including up to
10 sheets of a variety of fiber-based enlarging
papers. Sessions are held at our Mamie Street
location, or at a suitable location for out-of-town
workshops.

A darkroom/lab with 2-3 enlarger stations is absolutely
necessary for this class. Class is limited to
5 people per session.
Workshop
Fee: $190 per person at the Hattiesburg, MS location,
Deposit: $50.
Workshop
fee on location: $215 per person, Deposit: $75
(includes non-refundable registration fee), and
travel expenses for the instructor(s).
All
fees must be paid in full at least two weeks in
advance for on location workshops. |
